Now in its fourth summer, this fellowship program has opportunities for Cornell ILR students to participate as a group in research, active learning and service in community-based economic development in Buffalo.  Students study, experience, and contribute to dynamic local innovation by working with nonprofit organizations, government officials, businesses, and labor advocates focused on revitalizing the metro Buffalo economy.  Their activities are structured and supervised by faculty advisors, Lou Jean Fleron and Sam Magavern, in collaboration with Ron Applegate.

The program: The summer fellows in Buffalo work through June and July, earning $3000 for eight 35-hour weeks.  As a group, the students meet each Friday in the Buffalo ILR offices.  Friday programs include forums with guest experts on specific local economic development issues; sharing students’ weekly journals, project experiences and research; participating in field trips; and contributing to the programs and information infrastructure of the Partnership for the Public Good.
